"Sweet Peace" is a classical CD by Claire Stadtmueller (Soprano) and Michael Strauss (piano). It features international classical compositions that celebrate peace or express the tragedy of war.
The texts of this CD span five centuries; yet the emotions expressed are entirely of our time - the joy of those reunited with loved ones at war's end, the anguish of a soldier's widow, an individual's desperate yearning for inner peace, and the relief of one whom it has visited.
This classical set includes works by Claude Debussy, Richard Strauss, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Franz Schubert, and many more.
The inspiration for Debussy's song was the suffering he saw amongst the children during World War I while John Kander's "A Letter from Sullivan Ballou" is set to the poignant letter Ballou wrote to his wife before dying in the Civil War.
